Ok, I understand that a 'human verification' system seems to be needed just about anywhere now, it avoids problems with all manner of folk, some malicious, some just trying to advertise and some just plain idiotic. These people use automated software to get their grubby little fingers into any pie they can.:mad: But in all my dealings on the internet (and that would be a lot of dealings), I have never, ever seen such a ludicrous and ill thought out system of verification as on this forum. This minor and extremely necessary rant is not directed at any member of this forum who is not responsible for the abomination that I had to go through. It is most certainly directed at whomever thought that this elaborate system of riddle-me-this nonsense was a good idea!!!! In case you are wondering why I'm so mad about such a 'simple' step, the problem is just that, it's not simple it's ridiculous. It's all very well writing in big red caps at the top of the forum to look at member's posts for the answer to the riddle, but the only one I tried that actually worked was for Robo is .....?. At least he just had a nice simple "Archive Master" written in red under his name, "Russ T is ........?", I don't fr###ing know what Russ T is! because none of the combinations of words written around the avatar and user name of the Admin of this site works. I tried everything and it just kept saying "Incorrect answer to the random question". So I was in a position after an hour of trying to flip between tabs and search through posts to discover the answer to the question, when I said (among other things mostly beginning with c and ending in t) "screw this, I'll get in touch with the site admin" so I tried, guess what? I had to answer another riddle just to get in touch to ask about answering a riddle to get on a forum:confused::mad::confused::mad: I then cackled hysterically for a while as my mind melted under the weight of Irony. Want to do a search on the forum to find the answer? You can't because you have to be a member and therefore need the answer. Look through the FAQs? Don't bother, nothing there. Look in the Site Feedback, issues and suggestions section? There WAS nothing there when I looked.

Ok, I think that has got a few things off my chest.

I didn't want this to be my first post but if the Captain's Hat is in your locker, wear it. I had no choice, I had to say something because it shouldn't and never has taken me two hours to figure out a Human Verification question, it would discourage most folk but I'm a stubborn git who doesn't mind pointing out when something is so badly wrong. Another reason being that I have been reading another member's posts about his boat which is the same one I just aquired (Orkney 13/14') and I was impressed with his dedication and steadfastness to get the job done right. Also this is my first boat and this seemed to be a good place to come for advice because you folks seem to know your stuff.

This post was never and will never be intended to upset anyone, I actually like to laugh at most things and I did have a good laugh (allbeit slightly hysterical) joining this forum. Seriously though, can you consider changing the "Random Question" section to more normal system such as the lovely "Guess the wiggly letters and wether you have to be case sensitive or not" system of human verification?

Best regards and many thanks for reading this far;)--

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/818/ap15c.jpg/

hi all, ok pics of my last few days, i started off doing some beach fishing, trying for some bass, nothing doing, waited for the sun to go down, nice sunset. found what i think was a dolphin/porpoise carcass washed up.
worked on the boat saturday, just tidying a few things up. got invited to a boat comp. on sunday, with the club im a member of. my first meet, bit aphrehensive, all experienced boaters and fishermen, but i thought why not, nice to meet them all, and i will learn no doubt.
i was more interested in checking my engine than fishing. the guys were going to places called college rocks, and kingmere, about an hour west of shoreham. i bottled it and stayed local, so if anything untoward happened, engine wise, i wouldnt be far from home.
there were about a dozen of us who locked out at 8am. good banter, lots of p*** taking.
the wind was about 4knots not bad.
mark, my mechanic, had altered my throttle set up, and made it so the slow speed manouvering was easier, really good for locks and mooring, well happy with that.
anyway, i headed east, i was going 3 miles off brighton, straight out from the pier, lots of plaice out there,........yeah right lol.
i was using tescos raw prawns as bait, didnt have time to get proper stuff, tried for some mackerel, but nothing, not many showing at all down here so far. anyway i caught a gurnard first, got a pic of that, and then a plaice, weighed just over a pound, wanted to throw it back, but it swallowed the hook. cooked it later, lovely.
the wind picked up to 9, and the waves were a bit lumpy, quite uncomfortable, was bouncy around a bit, but good fun.
i went on a bit of a trek, from brighton, to shoreham and back, just enjoying being out there. engine was performing lovely, although it always has since peter leonard did the work on it.

i then got a bit excited, i saw what i thought was a head in the distance, as i got nearer i thought " oh bloody hell" i can see the red of a lifejacket, i went full throttle, heart racing a bit, its a dead body, i know it is. when i got closer, there it was, a bloody big balloon, with a face on it, a bloody mermaid. i was quite pleased actually.
not to waste the moment, i decided to practise MOB procedure for 15 mins. so something gained anyway.
decided to get the 1.30 lock in. one of the trawlers that i was close to at sea, was in there, as i came in, he jumped out and tied the front of my boat to the cleat, which was nice. a young bloke, about 18-20, and handling what i thought, was a big bloody boat on his own. said he always did it, i was well impressed. we got chatting, he was covered from head to toe in cuttle ink. got 8 boxes at £80 a box, some very big plaice, nice bream, and his jewel, a huge sole.
saw some of the others when they moored up later, lots of bream, dogs, plaice.
i really enjoyed my trip out, and with my controls altered it was so easy to reverse into my mooring spot.

went down sunday and cleared lots of unwanted stuff from the boat, putting stuff in storage boxes, and getting some sort of order, fed up with tripping over things. checked that my lifejackets (4) were all in order.
ps. note to self, buy a portapotti..........thank god for that tesco carrier bag, hope the fish enjoyed my prezzie lol

Hi, I’m a newbie here so apologies if this is an inane topic. Just wondering if I can get a bit of guidance.

I’ve been clearing out the garage of the house we moved into two years ago (it was chock full of crap) and have found two engines. Now I know nothing about engines full stop, especially marine engines.

However, one of them looks to be in better condition than the other and has ‘LANCING MARINE’ written on it and ‘BOWMAN 45’ on the other side. There’s also a small plaque which reads ‘BOWMAN’ and ‘3058’ (which I assume is some sort of serial number) and 01.05. (which I assume indicates it was built in January 2005).

The other engine is a lot more tired looking (rusting in places) and I can’t find any clues as to what it might be or who made it.

There are a few photos of the engines attached and I’m just after some general advice on what to do with them. First and foremost I want to make space in my garage, but if I can make a few quid selling them then all the better.

I found Lancing Marine’s website and emailed them and the helpful chap there took a look and said he thought the blue painted engine had some value and it would be worth trying to sell it. I’m just after a second opinion really.

Thanks in advance.

I have been looking for a toilet to go into my Sunseeker Mexico as the original had been removed before I brought the boat.

Hi all just found this site with my daughters help, I have been retired a month now after been in the merchant navy since 1963, now shes trying to teach me the computer, So, between dyslexic fingers and a number of furoros with her, I am hoping that someone can help me,,My mercury 7.5 twostroke outboard had been in the shed for six months and when i tried to start it it will only run in gear with full throttle for about a second, just one roar and that's it. I thought it was the carb so i cleaned it out and put all new rubber bits inside it,,It's still the same. (the brute).I was wondering if anybody else suffered this problem and how they cured it,??,hoping to hear from someone,,a grand site,,wishing all the best to you all.
Ps. pulling thon rope is'nt doing my atharitse much good
